Frequently asked questions
- How is a weighted grade calculated?
- Multiply your score in each category by that category’s weight, add those products together, and divide by the total weight. For example homework at 90% (weight 20) and a final at 80% (weight 50) give (90×20 + 80×50) divided by 70 if those are the only graded parts. Weighting is why doing well on a heavily weighted final matters more than the same score on light homework.
- What happens if my weights do not add up to 100%?
- The calculator still works and shows your grade across the categories you have entered, treating it as the grade so far. It flags that the weights are short of 100% so you know some of the course is not graded yet. Once every category is in and the weights total 100%, the figure becomes your final overall grade.
- Can I use it before every assignment is graded?
- Yes, and that is the point. Enter only the categories that have been marked and you get an accurate picture of where you stand right now, rather than waiting for the whole course. As more marks come in, add them and the grade updates.
- Is anything I type sent to a server?
- No. Everything runs inside your browser, so the work you do here stays on your own device and nothing is uploaded. There is no sign-up and no limit on how many times you use it, and once the page has loaded it keeps working with no connection.
